Bush urges 15 nations to set global emissions goal
Bush urges 15 nations to set global emissions goal
- President calls for meeting of top emitters of greenhouse gases
- Global warming to be addressed at summit in Germany next week
- Critic says U.S. has “do-nothing” policy on global warming
I agree with the critic this article listed.
Again, I am glad that something is being done about this, yet I am saddened by the fact that this is the first time in Bush’s 7 years that he has addressed this issue.
I am going to link all of these good things that Bush is currently doing to the 2008 Elections. Even though Bush is not going to get back into office, he wants to leave with a bang.
Two good things in a row? Within the same week? Its unheard of when it comes to Bush.
Bush requests more money for international AIDS fight
and now this.
Yet, like I said, I must agree with the critic. The Bush Administration, I will NOT say the US. (The US is made up of the people in the country, and the people in the country have been worried about this and have been trying to do something about this for a while, now) The Bush Administration has had a hands-off approach to Global Warming. Yet, now…Bush comes out and tells the other countries that they need to set a goal.
The EU already has lowered their emissions long before Bush even said anything about it.
I’m starting to think our government is full of hypocrites.

What evil is he hiding inside that request?
I’m an American living in Germany so I can give you a bit of a backstory here.
Angelka Merkel, German Chancellor and current EU President (they take turns, Portugal is next), has been pushing the G8 conference next week to commit to concrete limits on carbon dioxide emissions. It should also be noted that Merkel has a PhD in Physics, George W. Bush occasionally reads books.
Bush is using this “step-forward” in order to undermine Merkel’s pressure. Don’t be convinced by American coverage saying that Merkel is “greeting this move.” I suspect she’s pissed and simply got out manoeuvred. It still isn’t clear whether Merkel is going to completely back down.
Bush will push for a conference “some time in the fall” and then let that fall apart when MSM and the rest of the world isn’t looking.
But don’t be too light on the EU. Germany managed to lower emissions after Kyoto because industry in East Germany collapsed after the reunification in 1989. Since most of those factories had terrible environmental standards, Germany got a boost. France is largely dependant on nuclear power and has huge energy exports to neighboring countries. And the former German Chancellor, Gerd Schröder? He now works for GazProm a Russian oil and gas company.
So don’t think the Americans are the only ones who are hypocrites.
Oh, I didn’t know most of what you told me.
Thanks Ben!
Dude.
Ben, that was awesome.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Man, how hard would it be to be a politician?
Well, besides the fact that the initiation is eating babies.
