Court to hear Gitmo Appeals

ourt to hear Gitmo Prisoners Appeals

Just a little background, in case you weren’t aware.

It is now over five years since the first detainees were transferred to the detention camp at the US Naval Base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba

Despite widespread international condemnation, hundreds of people of more than 30 nationalities are still there: without charge, and with little hope of obtaining a fair trial.

At Guantanamo Bay, AKA Gitmo, torture goes on every day to the detainees that are there. Since the PATRIOT ACT was passed after 9/11, the government has been able to search without probable cause and detain without charge. At Gitmo, these prisoners are being detained without ever being charged.

Any person that was caught while in war, combatant or not, was held in Gitmo without any say. Fathers, mothers, sons and brothers were held in here even if they were not fighting int he war.

While the government has turned its cheek, many have not. Many are well aware of what goes on at Gitmo.

Bush pushed through Congress last year taking away the right of the foreign terrorist suspects at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba to have a judicial review of their detention.

The detainees could be held without ANY charge, for as long as the gov. wanted them to be.

Even though these appeals are going to be heard, that means nearly nothing, as you all are probably aware that the government doesn’t always follow through with ANYTHING that they say.

Even if these prisoners’ cases are heard, who’s to say that the gov. won’t make up some reason for finding them guilty?

One Response to “Court to hear Gitmo Appeals”

  1. Bush is so guilty of war crimes a fair and speedy trial might not be as flashy as secret prisons and torture but if you can’t convict a person under the militaries law then you don’t have a case. The secret information that can’t be used at trial Main Stream Media talking point doesn’t work at Gitmo I mean, what the information is too secret to tell a military court? Torture is flashy but how many years do these people have to stay there without a chance to prove their innoncent. Years of boredom years of life wasted they will never get back with their wives, kids, friends, family, all because George can’t admit a mistake.
