Are we ready to fight?
My brother was 6 when he decided to join the military and 18 when he did. He was not drafted. It was his choice. I do not want to get drafted when I turn 18 in 2 yrs (and a few months). Do you? If Bush doesn’t ever let this war end, and if Congress never pushes for it to end, then we all might end up fighting. Even with enlistment bonuses and 5th tours of duty, the military is going to run out of soldiers and marines.
This is an ad that is being run in Maine where Susan Collins is up for re-election, but it could run anywhere. Watch it. Share it with people. Keep me and my friends and our classmates and our generation from having to get drafted to fight Bush’s war.
Are you ready to fight? Are you ready to go on 3 or 4 or 5 deployments? Are you ready for PTSD? Are you ready to die?

Excellent job. I don’t want any of you to have to fight in a war. Time for some peace.
I just turned 18 almost 2 months ago. I had to register for the draft before I could go to college since it was one of the requirements of the loans I took out. I agree that we don’t need to go to war. I am not afraid to fight or die, but I want it to be for something that matter, something that I believe in. If the draft is ever activated, I have a plan. I’ll join the Air Force before they an call my number.
On a side note, it was recently reported in our local paper (yesterday, actually) that the Generals in Iraq admit that the strain on the military is too much and a draft will have to be activated in as little as 3 to 4 months in order to stustain the current troop levels.
If they are stupid enough to reactivate the draft, they’ll have a war on their hands, and it won’t be in Iraq. I didn’t have to join the Military either. But I did. Dumbest thing I ever did, and I was one of the only four people in my unit who came home.
If you are 18, you have a choice. It might not be a very comfortable choice, but it is a choice none the less. You just have to have the courage to make it and stick to it when they threaten you.
You are not subject to Military Justice unless you join the military. Until you cross that line, you are a civilian, no matter what they say.
Oh, yeah, my previous comment. I was in Vietnam, not Iraq.
Thanks for advice Cynic and I’m sorry for all the crap that you put up with. I’ll try not to make the same mistake.
Powerful video. Good writing. No one should have to risk their life to cover the tails of the incompetent Bushies.
A draft is politically untenable, which is why the Army and Marines are so stretched. If you think this is a war we should be fighting, we should have a draft; of course it isn’t, so Bush has effectively broken the military and, as you know, severely hampered the real mission of the National Guard.
