Huckabee, the Constitution and the News
Would someone please tell me why the story about Huckabee wanting to change the Constitution and start a theocracy here is NOT in regular newspapers? I am not allowed to use AlterNet or TPM or the blogs as sources for weekly “current events in politics” assignments. And if it isn’t even news for a high school history class, then it’s really not news for the American public!

Why not the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune or a newspaper my teacher accepts as real?!?!? Here’s what Huckabee ACTUALLY said:
”I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,” Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. “But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”
He’s a FFFFing candidate for President who has already won a state! Tell me why that this shouldn’t be front page news on all the newspapers this week.

Well there are two theories one is that the MSM (Main Stream Media) is controlled by big corporations and they don’t want to piss off the Fundies before an election. The Second is that our Democratic Media talking heads our wuses or they might be waiting for Huckabee to get front runner status and then sandbag him with the crazy talk.
I think your teacher is trying to teach you about primary sources along time ago before Judy Miller wrote for the New York Times and reporters started getting White house Emails for stories that could not be attributed to the White House but were published anyway.
Reporters needed 2 creditable primary sources or a creditable source who had real reasons not to go on the record as a source like fear of death or bodily harm.
Try and ask at the sites you go to just who were their sources and get a link. Lets face it the blogs don’t have much reporting ability yet chances are that we picked p the story from a mainstream source.
Some blogs do report stuff in that case ask for or find out their sources. Brad Blog investigates stuff all on its own but the results of an investigation or a direct interview with a source are primary sources and your teacher may question their facts but not that you reported accurately the facts as told to another.
If your teacher accepts some blogs as newsworthy that is.
Judy Miller wrote a bunch of stories for the New York Times about WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) suit case nukes etc. She got a Pulitzter Prize for that her stories all based on White House leaks were false, and no she has not returned her Prize.
Instead they are making a movie about her? Ask your teacher why the NYT is a creditable source or the WH for that matter.
Judy used one source off the record when there was no reason to give that source protection Bush protected Scooter quite well to cover up those lies. Judy did not look for a second INDEPENDENT source to back what Scooter was saying.
Scooter worked for the WH but Bush has not punished him for lying to the press so we cannot trust the White House as a source because while Scooter may have lied all on his own (I don’t believe that but thats what the WH would say). The WH did not punish Scooter for lying.
Blogs do get things wrong we are not perfect but the instant response from the comments help keep us honest although saying sorry when you are wrong isn’t fun. I myself have done it a few times
but I don’t have an editor or a fact checker. Still my record is much better than Judy’s.
The GOP Primary contest is going on to long Huck needs to whip up the Fundies with the GOP Gay Marriage wedge issue. The immigration issue etc. Funny the GOP ran on all that stuff last time and they lost control of the House and Senate.
You are right we need for everyone to hear this because by trying to win the 30%ers Huck is pissing off the 70%ers.
We have been fighting the war on terror longer than we fought WW 2, the Stock market is going down thanks to the subprime problem, the dollar is at record lows against the Euroe and Loony. (Thank God I got some Gold).
Wedge issues /imaginary monsters don’t work when we have real issues/monsters to worry about did Karl Rove cheat in Poly Sci class? Is cheating, dirty tricks and stealing elections the only way he can win?
I bet he’s the kind of guy who slips cheerleaders date rape drugs and then brags about the girls he sleeps with. Winning might be the only thing but at what cost is a win not worth it?
